I hope you find this blog post valuable! If you would like me and my team to take care of your social media for you, click here.
Alright, let’s talk bios. You know, that little section on your social media profile where you’ve got only 150 characters to put your best foot forward. If you’re a restaurant, your bio can be key in gaining a new booking right then and there.
I’ve been helping restaurants grow their bookings with social media for 3.5 years, and I’m here to tell you that most businesses are missing out on a huge opportunity when their bio isn’t optimised. So, within this blog I’m going to show you how to make your social media bio so irresistible that people can’t help but hit that “book now” button.
If you are wanting any help with anything mentioned below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to chat with you about anything social media!
Your opening line should immediately capture what makes your restaurant unique. Think of it as your hook, if someone’s stumbling onto your profile for the first time, you want them to feel something right away. In the same way that you want your restaurant to stand out when someone is walking down your street.
Examples:
Your bio’s opening line is a chance to show off what sets you apart. Let your personality shine and highlight something special. If you’re not sure what that is, ask your customers what they love about you.
The clearer you are, the more people will trust your restaurant. If you’ve got specialties, dietary options, or a certain vibe, let people know upfront. Are you a steakhouse? Farm-to-table? Plant-based? Organic wine bar? Don’t assume people know… tell them!
Examples:
If you’re trying to get more restaurant bookings using social media, don’t make people guess. Use this part of your bio to spell it out so they can immediately tell if you’re what they’re craving.
Here’s where you tell people what to do next. If you want more bookings, ask for them! Most restaurants completely skip this, but a clear CTA can work wonders.
Examples:
It doesn’t have to be complicated. The simpler, the better and whilst you can add up to 5 links in your Instagram bio, you don’t necessarily want to use all of them as a potential customer can get lost. Make it as easy and obvious as possible for someone to book a table.
Emojis are a fun way to add personality and break up text, but there’s a line between cute and chaotic. Aim for 2-3 carefully chosen emojis that represent your vibe. They’re eye-catching and can convey more than words sometimes!
Think of emojis as visual shortcuts that capture your brand in a fun way. A cocktail emoji for a bar, a pizza slice for a pizzeria, or a flame for a BBQ joint all add a little personality without cluttering up your bio.
Examples:
When in doubt, go minimal. Less is more when it comes to emojis.
Believe it or not, a lot of restaurant profiles don’t even include where they’re located! Don’t make it hard for people to figure out where you are. Including a location helps potential guests decide if you’re within their reach, and it’s especially helpful if you’re a destination spot or in a busy area.
You can add your address to your Instagram bio by adding it to your contact details and turning on display contact info all within your profile settings.
If your restaurant has won awards, been featured in publications, or has a noteworthy following, shout it out in your bio! This adds instant credibility and can give new visitors an extra reason to book with you.
Examples:
Just one line can make a world of difference when people are deciding between you and another spot. Awards and features are subtle ways of saying, “Hey, we’re the real deal.”
If someone wants to make a booking, they might have a quick question. Make it easy for people to reach you. Include a phone number, email, or a quick line like “DM us with any questions!”
Contact info is especially important if you cater to events or large groups, where people often have additional questions about bookings.
Restaurants change over time, menus, hours, specials, and vibes all evolve. If you’re running seasonal promotions, special events, or adjusting your hours, make sure your bio reflects that. You’d be surprised how many people get annoyed by outdated information (like showing brunch on Sundays when you actually stopped serving it a month ago).
Even a quick tweak every month or so keeps your profile fresh and up-to-date. That way, new followers will know they’re looking at the latest info, which builds trust.
A good bio isn’t a “set it and forget it” situation. After you’ve made some updates, keep an eye on your bookings and engagement rates. If you notice a boost in bookings, congrats, you’re on the right track! If not, try making small adjustments, like testing a new CTA or refining your opening line.
Your social media bio is the front door to your restaurant’s online presence. If you’re not taking advantage of this small but mighty space, you’re leaving potential bookings on the table. The perfect bio captures your unique vibe, shows off your offerings, and makes it easy for people to book a table. With the right words and a touch of sass, your bio can turn curious followers into loyal diners.
